“While the health status of Senator Mitch McConnell remains up in the air ... life goes on at his Washington, D.C. residence ... at least when it comes to flooring.

Our intrepid TMZ DC producer Charlie Cotton paid a visit to the Senator’s home Friday to see if he could get any answers on Mitch’s health ... and he saw something interesting leaving the house.

No, it wasn’t Mitch ... it was a guy with some carpeting samples.

Charlie spoke to the guy off camera ... and it sounds like new tiles are being considered too.

Mitch has been in the hospital since June 14 after paramedics responded to a report of an unconscious person in his Washington, D.C. home. Footage obtained by CNN shows paramedics getting him in an ambulance — showing absolutely no sense of urgency.”

“It’s summertime in D.C., which means the notorious rats are out in force, looking for places to hide, live and eat out of your trash.

However, you may have noticed a slight decrease in the furry creatures in certain parts of the District.

The Department of Health (DOH) tells 7News the city’s effort to curb the notorious rat problem by putting rodents on birth control is showing early signs of success, three months into a pilot program launched in the spring.

The DOH has been testing the approach in two neighborhoods so far: Adams Morgan and Eastern Market.

Residents may have noticed feeding stations placed along streets and alleyways in those areas. The stations dispense a liquid birth control for rats, and officials are urging people not to disturb them.

In addition to the feeding stations, residents may also notice what looks like piles of dirt up against buildings. Those are closed burrows where rats used to live, and officials say they should not be touched to reduce the risk of the rats returning.

The fertility control is the third and final step of the pilot, which began with a lethal bait followed by tracking powder.“
