But Tunisia is actually considered one of the safer North African countries for tourists and we didn’t once feel unsafe or at risk during our time there. ❌ “There’s nothing to see beyond the resorts” - It feels like a crime to visit Tunisia and only stick to a resort. This country surprised us in so many ways, from the dramatic desert landscapes of the south to the rolling green hills and ancient Roman history of the north. ❌ “It’s conservative and very restrictive” - We were so pleasantly surprised to learn that Tunisia is actually one of the most progressive countries in the region. With strong legal rights and access to education and work, particularly for women. In cities such as Tunis, it actually feels incredibly liberal.
