✅ Before we jump in, make sure to follow us @thebay.and.away if you love scenic destinations, outdoor adventures and stunning road trips in the Western U.S and beyond.

🏔️ The Columbia River Gorge is an 85-mile-long river canyon that runs through the Cascade Mountain Range, separating Oregon and Washington.

💧 If you love waterfalls, then this is the place for you - it’s home to over 90 waterfalls!

🥾 Some of these are easy drive-by views while some require long hikes to reach, but there’s no shortage of waterfalls to see.

🌦️ This area is beautiful and worth a visit in any season. We’ve been in both January and August, and would recommend both depending on what your tolerance is for crowds and cold weather.

Share this with someone you’d like to chase waterfalls in Oregon with!💙
This place never ceases to amaze us 🥰

🏔️ We were lucky enough to visit the Tetons for the 3rd time in July and this place never loses its magic!

🍂 And if you’re thinking you’ve missed your chance to visit this year, you haven’t! Fall (notably September to mid-October) is a great time to explore when the summer crowds are gone but the winter weather hasn’t rolled in yet.

If you’ve only got a long weekend to spare, here’s how we’d spend 3 days exploring Grand Teton National Park and the charming town of Jackson 👇

Day 1:
🫎 Early morning short hike to moose ponds (the earlier you go, the better luck you have at spotting a moose)!
🚤 Jenny Lake Boat ride to hike Inspiration Point/Cascade Canyon (note the boat rides close for the season on September 30th but you can still hike around the lake to reach the trailhead).
🌄 Golden hour at Mormon Row

Day 2:
🏔️ Sunrise at Schwabacher Landing OR Teton Point
🚘 Scenic drive to Signal Mountain
📸 Oxbow Bend
🍻 Afternoon/Evening in Jackson (Favorite spots: Snake River Brewing, Bin22, Cowboy Coffee, Persephone Bakery, Healthy Being Cafe & Juicery, Million Dollar Cowboy Bar)

Day 3:
🥾 Longer hike (Taggart Lake for easier option or Surprise, Ampitheatre and/or Delta Lakes for a bigger hike)
🍕 Lunch at Dornan’s
🤠 One last evening in Jackson square

🦬 If you’d like to make this a longer trip, Yellowstone is just a couple hours away and absolutely worth a visit as well.

🗓️ One other note- most of the visitors centers in the park close in mid-October, so make sure to check the NPS website for the most up-to-date information.

🏔️ We just did this road trip for the first time this summer and honestly can’t figure out what took us so long to finally visit. This itinerary has nonstop views and is the perfect summer or fall trip if you love mountains, scenic drives, charming towns and jaw-dropping landscapes!

Days 1-3 📍Crested Butte
☕️ Grab a coffee at @camp4coffee
🛍️ Take a walk and do some shopping in town
🪻 Go on a hike (or 2 or 3). If you’re visiting in the summer or fall, this is the best way to admire the wildflowers or fall colors.
🍕 Eat pizza at @secretstashcb
🚴‍♂️ Rent bikes and go mountain biking

Day 4 📍Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
🌄 Stop at all the viewpoints and don’t miss sunset or golden hour!
Tip: There isn’t much hiking in this park, so one day is sufficient.

Days 5-7 📍Ouray & Silverton
🛣️ Drive the Million Dollar Highway between towns
⛏️ Explore the historic streets of both old mining towns
🍹 Dine and/or have a drink at one of Ouray’s many rooftop restaurants
🥾 Day trip to hike the Blue Lakes Trail (difficult hike ~50 minute drive from Ouray)
♨️ Visit Ouray Hot Springs Pool (we didn’t do this but it is a popular highlight of the area)
💧 Hike to Lower Cascade Falls (easy-ish hike that departs right from Ouray town)

Days 8-10 📍Telluride
🚠 Ride the free gondola to mountain village
🛍️ Explore the charming shops and restaurants
☕️ Get a coffee at @thecoffeecowboy
💧 Hike to Bridal Veil Falls
🥾 Hike the Judd Wiebe Trail or any of the other scenic trails that leave from town
🍕 Get pizza at @browndogpizza
🎤 Attend one of the many free concerts and festivals offered in town over the summer and fall

So is this your kind of road trip? 🚗
