You’ll find the kind of place where you really need to slow down and look because there is SO much to see: furniture, vintage home decor, collectibles, books, toys, jewelry, glassware and plenty of things that will have you saying, “I remember these!”

And since we’re talking antique shopping, here are a few things I always recommend:

1. Do a full lap first.
Don’t buy the first thing that catches your eye. You might find something even better around the corner.

2. Look everywhere.
Eye level is only part of the story. Check shelves, underneath furniture, inside cabinets and tucked-away corners.

3. Look at the details.
Maker’s marks, labels, construction and materials can tell you so much about what you’re looking at.

4. Don’t shop with a specific item in mind.
Some of my favorite antique finds are things I never knew I needed until I saw them.

5. Come back.
Because the inventory changes, your favorite piece today might be completely different on your next visit.
