Some restaurants are always busy, and some, just aren’t. I’ve been around restaurants for a very long time, and I’ve seen this play out more times than I can count. And most of the time, it’s not the food.

A lot of places just aren’t being found online, or they’re not set up to bring people back. That’s where Owner.com comes in. It helps restaurants get found online, makes online ordering easier, and helps turn first time customers into regulars. And with their AI Grader tool, restaurants can actually see what’s hurting them online instead of just guessing.

There’s a spot in my neighborhood, Khaosan in Brooklyn Heights, that’s using it. I ordered through their app and the experience was seamless. Good food matters. But showing up at the top of Google matters just as much.

A beautiful recap of one my favorite events of the year - THE JMF BBQ BENEFIT at @pigbeachqueens!

Every year, @pigbeach_bbq hosts a bbq benefit for the Jeff Michner Foundation, where some of the best pitmasters and chefs from around the country gather in Queens to honor and celebrate the life of Jeff Michner, former executive chef of Pig Beach. Jeff passed away suddenly in 2018 at age 36, leaving behind his wife Sarah and daughter Hayes.

The proceeds from this event will be donated to the Jeff Michner Foundation, an established 501c3 nonprofit created by the Michner family, which supports families managing loss and grief and provide scholarships to graduating high school students with the love for cooking and golf - two of Jeff’s biggest passions in life. To find out more about this incredible foundation, head on over to @pig_beach_queens.

Thank you so much for inviting me again this year, @mattabdoo. I love you and everything you do! 🙏🏻💛

Can’t wait to see everyone again next year!

I grew up eating sliders in Jersey, so the grand opening of @whitsnyc makes me really happy! 🍔💛

This is NOT a smashburger. This leans more old-school and feels like a nod to White Mana back home. Simple, no frills, and just really good.

They’ve also got ripper dogs, deep fried so you get that snap on the outside and a juicy center.
The menu is tight, but it’s perfect as is.

Whits is located right next to Cello’s on St. Marks Place, and they’re open late on weekends. This is exactly the kind of spot you end up at when you’re hungry and just want something that hits every time!

Luk On Kui has been serving dim sum in Sheung Wan since the 1930s. For nearly a century, mornings here have begun the same way, with tea being poured and steam rising steadily from bamboo baskets.

When you walk into the room, everything feels unchanged over the years. The lights are bright, the tables are close, and the dining room moves at a pace that suggests everyone knows exactly what they are doing. Trolleys roll past stacked with bamboo steamers, and the women guiding them call out each dish from memory. You point, they stamp your card, and the meal unfolds in real time.

The menu is a catalogue of Cantonese standards such as siu mai, har gow, steamed ribs, and rice rolls, and they arrive just as generations before have eaten them. You come for those classics, of course, but what stays with you is how intact the whole experience feels. The service has its own rhythm. There is a quiet order to the chaos, and somehow it all makes perfect sense once you’re inside it.

In a city that constantly reinvents itself, Luk On Kui continues to exist on its own terms. If you care about understanding Hong Kong through the places that shaped it, this is a place worth making time for.
