Before DoorDash, Uber Eats, and $7 coffee runs, there was Banana Cue. 😂🍌

If you grew up Filipino, you probably remember grabbing one of these after school, at the market, or from a neighborhood street vendor. Just warm saba bananas covered in sticky caramelized brown sugar and served on a stick. Simple, cheap, and somehow better than half the snacks we have now.

Ingredients:
8 ripe saba bananas
1 cup brown sugar
4 cups cooking oil, for frying
8 bamboo skewers

2 Easy Steps:
1️⃣ Heat the oil over medium heat and fry the bananas for 2–3 minutes. Add the brown sugar and let it caramelize, turning the bananas until they’re completely coated in that sticky, golden goodness.
2️⃣ Remove from the oil, let them cool slightly, then place them on bamboo skewers. Done! 🍌✨
No app needed. No delivery fee. No complicated ingredients. Just classic Filipino merienda. 🇵🇭

Who remembers eating Banana Cue back in the day?

Long time no see! August was a bit hectic, but I’m hoping I can share why soon. 🤍

For now, here’s a fresh and easy Filipino Radish Salad (Ensaladang Labanos) that comes together in just 10 minutes! It’s crisp, tangy, and the perfect side dish with rice and your favorite savory Filipino meals.

Ingredients:
3 small radishes, peeled and thinly sliced
1–2 tbsp calamansi juice
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
2 small tomatoes
1 small onion
1 small piece ginger
Chopped green onions
Water, for soaking

Steps:
1️⃣Soak the sliced radish in water with a pinch of salt for 1–2 minutes. Drain well and gently squeeze out excess water.

2️⃣Add the tomatoes, onion, and ginger to the radish. Drizzle with calamansi juice, then add the sugar and salt.

3️⃣Mix well, top with green onions, and adjust the calamansi, sugar, or salt to taste.

Who needs store-bought siomai when you can make this vegan version at home? 😋 No meat, no complicated ingredients—just an easy, savory snack that hits the spot every time.

Ingredients:
2 cups crumbled firm tofu
 2 small carrots
5 cloves garlic
1 small onion
1 cup oyster mushrooms
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon vegetarian oyster sauce or soy sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons chopped green onions
siomai wrappers
oil

Directions:

Finely chop the carrots, garlic, onion, and mushrooms in a food processor. Combine with the tofu, flour, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, and green onions.

Add a spoonful of filling to each wrapper, then gently shape and press it around the filling, leaving the top open.

Place the siomai in a lightly greased steamer and steam for 7–10 minutes. Serve warm with soy sauce and calamansi or chili-garlic sauce.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy fresh mango 🥭✨ I made this simple Filipino-inspired snack with fresh mango, lime, and homemade chili-lime salt, sweet, tangy, salty, and a little spicy!

I served it on my @coleandmason Portobello serving board. I love the beautiful natural grain of the Italian olive wood, and it makes even a simple snack like this feel extra special for summer entertaining. ☀️

Chili-Lime Salt
Flaky salt
Chili flakes or chili powder
Fresh lime zest
Just mix, dip, and enjoy! 🥭
