Read This Book If…you’re fascinated by the tradwife phenomenon!

Natalie lives a traditional lifestyle – and her followers are sick with envy. Then, one morning, Natalie wakes up in a strange, horrible version of reality. She knows just two things for sure: this isn’t her perfect life, and she must escape, by any means possible.

As darkly funny as it is shocking and gripping, Yesteryear is an electrifying examination of tradition, fame, faith and the grand performance of womanhood.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke

Genre: literary fiction
Setting: Idaho, 1855 and present
POV: single, 1st person, present tense
Tropes: dual timeline

My Thoughts:
When a tradwife influencer wakes up in 1855, what could go wrong?! As it turns out, A LOT.

I found this novel to be gripping and felt like I couldn’t look away. If you’ve read or seen Gone Girl, I found Natalie’s inner voice to be very similar! She’s deeply unlikeable and I was obsessed with her.

I really loved flipping between the “past” and the “present” and seeing everything that went into a fake-yet-authentic life. I personally found one timeline more interesting than the other and was eager to return there.

While I enjoyed this entire book, the ending wasn’t particularly satisfying. I would have loved to lean further into the horror elements that were sprinkled throughout. However, I can still definitely recommend reading!

Memorable Quote: “That’s the thing about being a mother and a wife and an influencer, all at the same time: it’s basically like breastfeeding three babies simultaneously. Like seducing three lovers at once.”
