We need to take off the rose-colored glasses when we talk about reunification.

I keep seeing people say, “She’s taking classes,” “She’s doing what CPS asked,” or “Those children belong with their mother.” And I need us to be so fucking for real: reunification is not automatically the best outcome for every child.

After watching publicly shared clips from Katrina Sobecky’s livestreams, what I saw disturbed me deeply. In my opinion, the behavior shown toward those children raises serious concerns about their safety and wellbeing.

Parents can take classes. Parents can complete programs. Parents can say they’ve changed. But the goal should never be reunification simply because someone is the biological parent. The goal should be safe, stable, protected children.

Sometimes supporting children means rooting for a parent to genuinely change. And sometimes it means accepting that a child may be safer somewhere else.

Children do not exist to give adults another chance.

“Parental alienation” can become another weapon in the hands of an abusive person.

When a survivor sets boundaries, follows a protective order, protects their children, or simply stops giving an abusive ex access and control over their life, suddenly they’re accused of “keeping the kids away” or “turning the children against them.”

Sometimes what’s being called alienation is actually accountability, boundaries, and the consequences of someone’s own behavior.

Post-separation abuse is still abuse.

And a huge thank you to the Dirty Laundry Podcast for the clip I included in this video and for continuing to have these important conversations. 🤍

At what point do women just stop participating in conversations with people who continuously defend systems that harm women and children?

Because I’m exhausted watching the goalposts move while women are expected to patiently debate, explain, educate, and listen to arguments about things that should never have been up for debate in the first place.

And before the “not all men” comments arrive: obviously, I am not talking about every single man on Earth. There is a small percentage of men who do not fit what I’m describing—and you usually don’t have to look very hard to figure out who they are. It will be blatantly obvious.

If your first instinct is to defend yourself instead of asking why women are this angry, you might be missing the entire point.
