If your pet is not properly secured, is causing a disturbance, or becomes a threat to other passengers or animals, airlines can take action, including removing you from the flight.

A dog breaking out of its carrier and going after a cat a row ahead isn’t just an inconvenience. It’s a safety issue.

As a service dog handler, seeing airlines actually enforce their policies makes me feel a little safer traveling with Pluto💚

A letter does NOT make your dog a service dog📢

@esadoctors is currently selling a “Psychiatric Service Dog Letter” for $199, with a $125 yearly renewal. Their website advertises this alongside benefits like access to stores, restaurants, hotels, airplanes, and pet-free housing.

But their own FAQ states that PSD letters are NOT required under the ADA and do NOT confer legal rights.

So I have questions.

A person must have a disability AND their dog must be individually trained to perform disability-related tasks to qualify as a service dog. A healthcare professional’s letter does not turn a pet into a service dog or grant an untrained dog public access.

@esadoctors , how are clients being educated about this distinction before purchasing? What happens after someone receives the letter? And if the letter isn’t required under the ADA and doesn’t provide public access rights, what exactly is the $125 yearly renewal keeping “current”?

This type of marketing can be incredibly confusing to someone who doesn’t already understand service dog laws.

A letter can document a disability. It cannot create a service dog🙅🏻‍♀️
