How to throw a summer banger 🎉🌭🎈☀️

We wanted to throw a party that was reminiscent of parties when we were kids! So that meant face painting, hot dogs, balloons, popcorn machine, cotton candy machine, caprisuns, popsicles, piñata, games, and bubbles 🫧 only thing that was missing was the bounce house

Maybe my favorite thing about hosting is having a few surprises for the guests throughout the day/night and also making sure there are multiple moments/activities that bring people together

The art of hosting is dying and we need to keep it alive! Parties should be fun and weird and silly! Who says we can’t spend our adult money on our child-like interests!

The full story on how I made The Scarlet Knight 🩸⚔️

My north star for projects this year has been 1) challenge myself with new creative styles that I want to master and 2) create work that is overwhelmingly human.

I had a little experience with stop motion before this year but have never really attempted anything to this scale. I thought how hard could it be?!

I get excited to find myself in the position of “okay I think I have a really cool idea, I have no idea how to pull it off, but if I CAN pull it off somehow, it’ll be one of the coolest things ever”. It’s a great place to be as an artist because you now have something to keep you motivated (as a freelancer working from home it’s hard to always self motivate and stay on track!) AND you are forced to problem solve in ways you haven’t before, so it’s great for building new skills

I think it’s really important to allow yourself room to explore creative projects beyond your regular focus. Don’t niche down! It’s okay to take on different styles and different mediums. You don’t need to stay in one specific lane just for your audience (despite what the algorithm says), the collection of all your tastes and skills together makes YOU the niche ✨

Before La La Land there was Young Girls of Rochefort 👯‍♀️💛💖

This movies rules incredibly hard if you like films with whimsically colorful set design and costuming and dance numbers and are just clean fun the way that a movie from the 60s could be.

I watched this when I found out it was one of Damien Chazelle’s inspos for La La Land, along with Jacques Demy’s other film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (which I’m going to see for the first time at the Museum of Modern Image next month!).
