I read once somewhere that mothers are the thermostat to our homes, we are the ones responsible for these little lives & we are the ones who have the ability to change our whole day around. I’m a human too and we all have off days but that doesn’t need to lead to off lives. I have very set rhythms to my days & I’m definitely NOT a routine person but these little things I do every day have given me a completely different headspace & offered so much peace to my life. And the amazing thing is they are SO simple ~
1. We always start our mornings slow. The kids watch a little low stimulation show (we love tumble leaf, brambly hedge, and little bear), my husband typically makes breakfast, the kids eat and then play and I watch them while drinking coffee and eating my breakfast. There is NO rushing. We go at our own pace and when I can tell everyone is ready to move forward we do!
2. We always start our day with a Bible story or reading and ALWAYS have soft music playing, typically Alan Gogoll or Elizabeth Mitchell. The soft music is on throughout our whole morning!
3. I currently homeschool my 3 older kids, and I love that it gives us the flexibility to choose! When school feels like a battle, instead of frustration we can take breaks. Whether that’s a “go color for a bit” or a “school will be at the beach today!” Not forcing lessons has been a game changer and makes our school work feel so much more beneficial
4. When we’re having attitude problems, before anything we ask “am I hungry?”, “am I thirsty?”, “am I tired?” Sometimes we don’t realize the simple solution is a snack or a rest, and not the attitude itself! And then we can also throw in how we can identify this feeling and maybe use our words first next time (;
5. Last but maybe the most important! We don’t have packed schedules or “to do’s”. We typically see friends once during the week, we have ballet for my daughter 2 nights of the week, and then the rest is open! Our days are typically mornings at home and afternoons at the beach/outside. But we are so go with the flow & it is my #1 rule with being a peaceful mother.
