📍Leonard’s Bakery Malasada Truck, Koko Marina Center (they really are best when they are fresh and warm, but this was so fun!) @leonardsbakeryhawaii

Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail: Things to Know with Kids

🥾 Distance: About 2 miles round trip
⛰️ Elevation gain: About 500 ft. There are some exposed edges along the trail, so this is one where I definitely keep little ones close or contained in a stroller/carrier!
👶 Stroller friendly: The entire trail is paved, except for a few sets of stairs at the very top. However the trail is a steady incline and definitely a workout pushing a stroller!
💰 Cost: FREE to hike + free parking
🚗 Parking: There’s a lot at the trailhead that opens at 7am. We’ve never had trouble finding a spot when we go early. Later in the day it can get crowded and you may need to park on the street.
☀️ Shade: None! We like to go early, bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen. Hats with straps are helpful because it can get really windy!
🚽 Bathrooms: There are no restrooms on this trail. We usually stop at Sandy Beach nearby to use the barrooms at the beach on the way, and we have a trunk potty.
🌊 Views: You’ll get gorgeous views of the southeastern coastline, Koko Head, the Windward Coast, and Makapuʻu Lighthouse. On clear days you may even see Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi!
🐋 Bonus: During whale season, keep an eye out for humpback whales from the lookouts!
🍦🍻Head to Koko Marina after, it has beautiful views and so many great spots to eat! Some of our favorites are @konabrewinghawaii (they have a kids menu!), @hammondsicecream (get an ice cream flight!), @leahihealth808 for healthy bowls and smoothies, and @islandbrewcoffeehouse for coffee with a view.

💪We especially loved the Big Kid Fitness class (my kids are 3 and 5 so they could do it together!) which is a drop off class that build gross motor skills through movement and games while also working on teamwork, confidence, and emotional regulation.
📚My 3 year old loved the preschool prep class which includes a parent, and uses circle time, stories, songs, crafts, movement, and early academics to help little ones practice skills that prepare them for a preschool classroom.
