You do *not* need to change your body or lose weight to dress the way you want babe! Period!✨

I always used to think, “one day when I’ve lost weight, I’ll be able to wear whatever I want”. And I would daydream about all of the different stylish cute outfits I’d be able to wear.

But only if I lost weight, only if I got down to a single digit size, then I would finally be able to live out my dream of wearing whatever type of outfit I wanted. I was so brainwashed.

Tricked by our fatphobic society into thinking that there was no way I would like the way I looked in clothes unless I lost weight. But that is total BS babes. You can and should wear whatever you want, no matter your size.

It took me finding other plus size babes rocking the cutest fits online and going on this journey to learn to love and accept myself to finally realize I didn’t need to wait to dress any way I want.

So now I’m making up for lost time, you’ll be seeing my fat body wearing short skirts, crop tops, you name it, and I don’t care who doesn’t like it🤷‍♀️

I can’t believe I wasted so much time being so worried that if I exposed my fat arms or legs to the world, I would explode or burst into flames, or something along those lines…

Ok maybe not quite that extreme lmao but damn near close in the sense that I truly believed that the only way I could go out in public was if I covered my fat body basically head to toe.

I recently cleared out a lot of old clothes from my closet and when I tell you that I pulled upwards of 40+ coverups, wraps, ponchos, etc. out of there, I’m not even joking. The thought of exposing my bare arms in public gave me horrible anxiety.

And don’t even get me started on how long I hated my legs, how thick my thighs have always been since my early teens, and the amount of cellulite that is visible on them. Now I’ve come to understand I quite clearly have lipedema but back then I had no idea that even existed.

Life is far too short to waste worried about other people‘s negative judgment of you or your body. Wear what you want, babe, and let those arms and legs be free ✨

“That’s not appropriate on someone your size”. “Too revealing”. “Shows too much cleavage”. 🙄

I’m not exactly sure what it is about older women that make them think it’s OK to make comments like this to other women. First of all, who are you to declare what’s appropriate or not?

And second, what makes you think that you are an authority that should be instructing other people on how they should be dressing THEMSELVES?!! The audacity to think that you know better than they do about how to dress their own bodies is insane. WEAR WHAT YOU WANT BABE!!

I absolutely love it when I see older women unapologetically living their best lives, dressing flamboyantly and beautifully, in all different kinds of styles. No matter your age, no matter your size, you should be dressing however you want.

Don’t let anyone else’s stupid opinion affect the way that you view yourself. Or the way you dress!! Colorful, whimsical outfits are just way more fun if you ask me.

And let me say this loud and clear: how you dress is in no way an indicator of your character.

The people who will judge you for showing some cleavage are the same people who would judge someone dressed in a Goth style and say they’re a bad person without even knowing them. They’re the same people who will look at an SA victim and say “well, what was she wearing?”

And that is complete and total BS. I don’t care how revealing your outfit is, it’s never an invitation. And it’s never an excuse or reason to be assaulted. The people who think like this need to undo their own internalized misogyny, and stop carrying water for a patriarchal system that blames women for men’s actions.

Now that I have freed myself from the shackles of feeling like I had to wear only clothing that covered my fat body, it’s been really fun to explore different styles.

Being unafraid to try sleeveless, short, more revealing clothing has truly been like discovering a whole new world. I wasted so long thinking that I just could not wear so many things.

But that’s all BS babe, no matter your size, you can and should wear whatever you want. Now I know that there are no styles off-limits.

I’m no longer trying to conform to fatphobic societal beauty standards never meant for bodies like mine.

I dress the way I want to dress for ME. And if only younger Tess could see me now, I think she would be amazed. 🥹
