I wanted a refresh for fall and Aimee nailed it. I had one rule: no blonde, and I’m not going to lie, it was a little scary seeing blonde midway through.

When I say Toad would prefer to live in our skin this is what I mean. I haven’t had a moment alone in 3 years. His preference is to be touching at all times.

I know it seems sweet, and it is. Most of you will probably say “awww” or say you’ll switch places with me in a heartbeat. But I also need you to know he’s 40lbs and runs on hot all the time. This isn’t an adorable lapdog situation, he’s basically a heated blanket that’s so heavy your toes will go numb.

Would I change it? Absolutely not. Do I wake up drenched in sweat all summer long? Definitely.

His owners brought him to the vet sick with pneumonia and a bruised lung, and they made the hardest kind of decision you hope you never have to make. They couldn’t give him what he needed, so they let him go. He was surrendered to a rescue, and honestly? Thank you. Thank you for that, because it’s the only reason he ended up here.

We were supposed to foster him for one week while someone was on vacation. He never left. Three years later he’s asleep on my legs as I type this, snoring, completely convinced this is just how life has always been.

I wonder if he remembers any of it and I hope not. I hope all he knows now is warm couches, full bowls, and people who will never stop showing up for him.
