✨✨✨ WHERE TO GET CHINESE-AMERICAN COMFORT FOOD IN ATLANTA ✨✨✨

@bigbosschinese in Midtown Atlanta brings together two sides of Chinese-American cooking, with a menu curated by owner and chef Guy Wong (@guywongatl).

One side focuses on nostalgic NYC-style Chinese-American comfort dishes, while the other is a dine-in-only chef-driven menu inspired by his Cantonese roots. I really liked that there is room for both approaches on the same menu, depending on what you are in the mood for.

Guy is also the chef/creator behind Miso Izakaya, Le Fat, Ton Ton, and Ruby Chow’s. Since Ton Ton closed, he has gotten plenty of requests to bring back the Dan Dan Noodles from Ponce City Market, so it was nice to see them make their way onto the chef-driven menu at Big Boss.

We tried several dishes, including the Salt & Pepper Chicken, Chili Wontons, Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Peanut Noodles, Char Siu Faan, Hand-Pulled Chow Fun, and Crispy Ma Po Tofu. There was a good mix of familiar Chinese-American favorites and dishes that lean more into the Cantonese-inspired side of the menu.

And for anyone who spends time in Midtown, Big Boss also offers complimentary parking for guests, which is a pretty nice perk and not something you come across often in the area.

✨✨✨ NEW MALAYSIAN CAFE IN DORAVILLE ✨✨✨

Found a new Malaysian spot in Doraville called Bake And Bite Kopitiam (@bakeandbite01_) and we decided to check it out.

They have a pretty varied menu with small bites, signature rice and noodle dishes, chef’s specials, coffee and tea, plus baked items. We started with their Kaya Toast, which is a popular Malaysian breakfast dish. I’d definitely recommend getting this if you visit. It’s simple, but the kaya and butter with the toasted bread make for such a good combination.

We also ordered the Beef Rendang, Nasi Lemak, and Curry Noodle Soup. All three were really good, and we ended up enjoying everything we ordered.

For drinks, we tried the White Coffee + Milo and Pandan Coconut. The Pandan Coconut was really good, and they make their pandan ice cream in house, which is always a nice touch.

We finished with the Pandan Chiffon Cake, and it was amazing! Soft, airy, and just the right amount of sweetness. Definitely get this if you see it available.

Checked out Terminal 26 at Ponce City Market, the newest concept from the 26 Thai Hospitality group, the team behind 26 Thai, Blackjack Bar Tapas, and Pink Lotus Thai.

The menu takes inspiration from Thailand’s local floating markets, with fresh seafood, Thai snacks, grab and go bites, small plates, and craft cocktails. We ordered a mix of dishes for the table, including the Hat Yai Wings, JJ Grilled Chicken, Market Corn Fritters, Chicken Khao Soi Roti Wrap, Floating Market Red Curry, and Tom Yum Fried Rice.

For drinks, definitely order the Thai Iced Tea and the Mango Tide Cocktail. If you’re heading to Ponce City Market and want to check out the newest concept from the 26 Thai team, add Terminal 26 to your list.

✨✨✨ NEW INTIMATE SPEAKEASY IN ATLANTA ✨✨✨

Checked out @lacuevaatl, a new speakeasy in Atlanta. The space has a dark, cave-like design with low lighting and a really intimate feel. They also have live music every night, which we got to enjoy while we were there.

The menu is influenced by Latin America, and the cocktail list has a mix of specialty drinks and a few classics. I tried the Drifter and Rico Guave, and both ended up being my favorites. They also have wine and beer if you’re looking for something other than cocktails. For food, we ordered the Peruvian-style Ceviche, Tuna Tostada, and Short Rib Gnocchi.

They do accept walk-ins, but reservations are highly recommended. When you make a reservation, they send you an access code to scan at the door, which is part of the experience.
