Day 2 of Winter Skills and we took on Meall a’ Bhuiridh (1,108m) in full winter glory ❄️ Ice axes biting into the snow ⛏️ Crampons crunching underfoot 🥾 Confidence growing with every step 🏔️ There’s something about a snowy Scottish summit that just hits differently… but if I’m honest, it’s never only about the mountain. It’s about the people you share it with. The encouragement. The teamwork. The shared flasks. The “you’ve got this” moments. That’s the magic of group hiking. Community. Connection. Building skills together. Pushing comfort zones in the safest, most supportive way. With this Ray of Sun Adventures crew? Every summit becomes a favourite 🧡 Cold cheeks. Strong legs. Even stronger tribe. #WinterSkills #GroupHiking #OutdoorCommunity #ScottishMountains #RayOfSunAdventures
Winter Skills Course Day 1: Buachaille Etive Beag ❄️🏔️⛏️ Our first proper taste of winter conditions and what a way to start. Learning to move confidently on snow, practicing winter walking skills, cutting steps, making ledges, and building those solid winter mountain foundations in one of the most iconic spots in Glencoe. Nine brilliant women on the hill (including me and Gemma) — learning, supporting each other, laughing… and doing it all the Ray of Sun Adventures way 🤍 Winter skills days aren’t about being perfect — they’re about building confidence, staying safe, and realising you’re capable of way more than you think. Then back to the cosy magic of Camus House at the end of the day — community vibes, loads of laughter, warm showers and seriously delicious meals. The kind of days that fill your cup and tire your legs in the best way. And honestly… you couldn’t ask for a better classroom than the Scottish mountains. More winter skills weekenders coming next year 👀 Who’s joining us? #WinterSkills #BuachailleEtiveBeag #WinterMountaineering #WomensAdventure #GuidedWalksUK
You should have seen Nesscliffe on Saturday. We started the hike by walking straight into legend at Kynaston’s Cave — red sandstone, outlaw stories, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve accidentally stepped into a Netflix series. Then I led the squad up the red sandstone steps to Oliver’s Point, where the Breidden Hills, Oswestry and Wales casually laid themselves out like a postcard. We took a well-earned breather, soaked it all in, chatted, snacked, and collectively agreed this view was doing the absolute most. Next, we drifted through a forest of stunning North American Sequoia redwoods and pines, where Shropshire suddenly decided to cosplay as California 🌲✨ And just to finish strong, we explored a 2,000-year-old Iron Age hillfort, because apparently this walk refuses to be anything less than iconic. Quiet Shropshire hill… main character energy. 10 people. Endless laughs. Big chats. Big views. Steps smashed before 11am. History, legend, woodland, hills — and that unbeatable feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be. This wasn’t just a hike. It was a story you really should’ve been part of. If you’re thinking “I need to get on the next one”… trust that instinct 😌 🥾 Shrewsbury Highlights Circular 📍 Saturday 7th Feb 🔗 Book via the website link in bio Come and collect your own memories, muddy boots, and smug step count. I’ll handle the route, the stories, and the adventure 🌿✨ #Nesscliffe #ShropshireHills #ShropshireHikes #HikingCommunity #UKhikes
We chased the sunrise… and found something better 🌄 30 of us came together on the Stiperstones for a winter solstice hike — marking the turning of the year, slowing down, and welcoming the returning light 🌞 The clouds kept the sunrise to themselves (rude 😅), but what we did get was Bucks Fizz, mince pies, dark chocolate truffles, enchanting solstice stories from @Daniellefree, and a 6.5km atmospheric walk wrapped in laughter, reflection, and new friendships forming step by step 🤗 This is what it’s about — community, shared moments, and celebrating seasonal milestones together out in nature 🍄‍🟫⛰️🌲🥾 Come for the experience. Stay for the friendship.
