Industrial composting or community composting? Which one is needed more? As Michael Martinez, founder of @lacompost shared with me that we need both.

In order to establish local compost hubs they take time, collaboration, and group investment (physical labor). And we need every types of systems — implementing solutions across the world.

Personally for myself we can all build our own compost systems, what does it mean to extend our own local composts with our friends and neighbors? How do we begin to build outside the box? This is what we need to be doing 🌎 To check out more head over to my profile to watch the full episode 📺

Latinos in sustainability. The founder of @lacompost , Michael Martinez reminded me that Latinos have always practiced sustainability.

For me, my first time actually managing my own compost was when I was living in New Jersey. I had a slow composting area where I grew tomatoes, and other plants alongside the two composting bins.

Many Latinos perhaps don’t identify with the word sustainability but many of and our ancestors come from ecologies of restoration, land care, and relationships with the land.

When was the first time you did composting? Was it hard for you? Check out the full episode in my profile 🔗

Did you know before @lacompost became one of the largest community composting organizations, it was ran by Michael Martinez (Founder pictured in the video) and a few friends as a local project?

A lot of the times people believe that their first gear or years they need to be established but in reality the origins of LA compost were quite grassroots. It eventually evolved into a thriving hub for drop off programs at farmers markets and educational workshops across LA County.

If you are someone who has been thinking of implementing their own local composting system in your city or area, what are some of the challenges you face? Head over to my profile to watch the full episode 📺
