馃嚢馃嚪 KOREAN WHISKY 馃嚢馃嚪

Latest newsletter for @worldoffinespirits and I was rather taken with the Korean whiskies I tried at this year's @whiskyshow.

During a press preview, organiser @dawndaviesmw hailed it as being the equivalent of Japan when it comes to the Next Big Thing in whisky.

I took a look at who's making what, why, and how Korean whisky is creating a flavour thumbprint - from Korean barley, wildly swinging ageing climates and more.

The piece will be live online soon but in the meantime, sign up to the World of Fine Spirits newsletter for more spirits writing from its bank of excellentcontributors.

馃 BILLINGSGATE WEEKENDER 馃

A perfect Saturday at our local, @terryscafelondon, for its Terry's Seafood Festival to celebrate 750 years of market culture at the legendary cafe.

Crement, unbelievably creamy oysters, buttery scallops, Billingsgate and lobster rolls, and my first jellied eel all accompanied by some live jazz.

How lucky are we to have this down the road. Final day of celebrations today - get yourself down there.

馃 FACE IT TOGETHER 馃

As a proud patron of The Drinks Trust charity, today, on 19th September, I am standing with my drinks and hospitality peers to shout about its #FaceItTogether campaign to try and raise 拢1m to help those in hardship in our industry.

One in five of us will face some kind of hardship in our careers in this industry, and any one of us can face hard times.

Today, let's come together to raise awareness and make sure nobody has to go聽through it alone. We are a community, and we are stronger as one.

Head to the link in my bio to donate and share the message far and wide today via @drinks_trust.

馃崕 THE FINE CIDER COMPANY 馃崕

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of finally meeting @fine_cider founder Felix Nash for a tasting after their London Fields HQ.

Having interviewed him a couple of times (and read his brilliant book) I've developed even more of a love for cider, perry, and other orchard-based iterations and he pulled out an absolutely stonking selection for me and my fellow tasters to try over relaxed conversation woven with his superhuman knowledge.

From the origins of traditional method in England to the nuances of ice cider, lost and refound apple varieties to the complexities of perry making, we tasted our way through bottles that truly showcase how diverse, delicious and dazzling this category can be.

I'll be waxing lyrical about it over on my Substack soon, but in the meantime, take note of the bottles and the tagged makers. I bought bottles of the Brannland Iscider, Two Orchards, and Wilding Perry - can't wait for a dinner part to share them with friends and share the good word.
