If your experience makes sense to you but looks confusing on a resume, try looking for the job by the problem you’d solve.

A few places I’d start:

1️⃣ Founder’s associate or business operations: for people who can take an unclear problem, work across teams, and get something moving.

2️⃣ A startup’s first marketing hire: for people who can talk to customers, write, and figure out how to get a product in front of the right audience. Ask about the support and budget. “Do everything” can also mean an impossible job.

3️⃣ Product operations or growth: for people who like working between customer feedback, product decisions, and the numbers.

Two places to look for roles: Next Play (nextplay.so) and Ali Rohde (https://alirohdejobs.substack.com/)

Comment “startup job” and i’ll dm you these links and my post on how i got a startup job!

When you apply, pick a problem in the job description and show where you’ve solved something similar. Make the connection for them.

If you feel like you’re talking to AI all day and obsessing about which AI tools to use, SAME…but also, this is no longer the best way to stand out at work / in business.

The research behind this: @pwcus 2026 Hopes and Fears survey looks at AI advantages alongside how scarce workers believe their skills are.

Slides are from an event I attended with @linkedin at @superhuman__hq Superhuman pulling real data from Linkedin job seeker profiles. The 11x figure referred specifically to the prevalence of AI literacy skills among hires aged 22–25 since ChatGPT launched.

Learning the tools matters. But having enough real experience with a problem to know when the answer is bad might be even more important

The biggest mistake I see ambitious people make when scaling a business is waiting until they feel “ready” to delegate. You don’t scale and then bring in help - you bring in specialized help so you can scale.

Whether it’s web development, SEO, design systems, or launching a new channel, bringing in vetted freelance talent gives you enterprise-grade execution without full-time overhead.

I felt like I was paying for adult summer camp when I took out $100K in loans for business school. So yes, some of these took a while to feel worth it lol.

1️⃣ Taking a $50K pay cut to become a startup’s first marketer. I got to do everything from writing product launch strategy to filming customer interviews. The reason I took the job was to learn, and I treated the equity as a lottery ticket.

2️⃣ Borrowing $100K for my MBA. The immediate ROI was questionable. Two years out, I can point to the network, the move into marketing, and meeting the person I’ll build wealth with.

3️⃣ Keeping my 9-5 while building my business. My salary gave me time to experiment without needing every post or offer to make money immediately.

4️⃣ Leaving banking to help grow a business in Mexico. It looked like a step backward on the corporate ladder, but taught me how to operate a business and work across cultures.

5️⃣ Making content about “boring” topics like business, tech, and marketing. That brought in brands, clients, and opportunities with budgets for what I knew.

I’m sharing what worked for me. A pay cut or an expensive degree still has to make sense for your own finances.
