I used to think love was about finding someone who would complete me. Now I think it’s about finding someone who can love me while I continue becoming more fully myself.

Someone who can witness me unravel without needing to fix me. Who can hold tenderness alongside sharp truth. Who keeps meeting me, again and again, with consistency, curiosity, and care.

Eight years has taken us through the kinds of chapters that change people: loss, raising kids, career changes, identity shifts, grief, and the dissolution of so much of who we once thought we were. We have met versions of ourselves neither of us knew were coming.

And somewhere in all of that, I think I began to understand what makes love endure.

Not never hurting each other. Not getting it right all the time. Not becoming so healed that we never get triggered again.

But learning our patterns well enough to recognize when they’ve taken the wheel. Learning to tell the difference between the person in front of us and the wound of the past speaking through us. And, when we can, choosing something different.

This is what I know after eight years:

Love isn’t the absence of rupture.
It’s the devotion to repair.

It’s whole people choosing each other without asking either person to disappear.

People learning how to orbit one another while still maintaining their own gravity.

To my dearest Bunny, thank you for loving me through so many versions of myself. Thank you for being a soft place for me to land, for meeting the mess with tenderness, and for continuing to grow alongside me.

Eight years later, I’m so curious about who we’ll become next.
