Did some quick bark removal and rough planing of these walnut slabs to see what I was working with under the saw marks and dirt :) deciding between the two for a backer on my current project and I was pleasantly surprised to see both are good contenders!! Once I decided I’ll really clean it up and then maybe turn the other into a charcuterie board or serving tray!

Shared some tips for repeatable results with splines a couple posts back :) made this little frame for a marquetry piece I made in my first class learning the technique. It’s been a really fun area of woodworking to explore!

Took some time learning the ins and outs of the @foredomelectric K.1070 yesterday! It’s very similar to prior rotary tools I’ve used and simple to get going. Mine came with a 1/8” collet installed which is perfect for the burrs I like to use most, but there are other sizes available.
·
It also has a foot pedal … the one I have is a variable speed pedal and since I was sitting in my driveway I didn’t use this, instead I used the dial on the motor control box and the on/off switch. There is an optional on/off foot pedal as well!
·
I’m excited to keep using this along with the SR Flexshaft. They each have their place in my work and the variability of having both options is really nice to have. Happy to answer questions about the tools I use or methods I’ve found that work for me while carving.

I plug in a monthly(-ish) workout post on here in hopes of inspiring others to move their bodies. Working out for me is so much for than just staying healthy, it’s such a gift! It’s a way to destress (no shade to my scroll saw - that’s number 1), but it too gives me a clear head and is a reminder that I can do hard things.
•
It keeps me strong for my kids - so when my almost 90 pound 7 year old jokingly says that I’m not strong enough to carry him on a walk I can pause, hoist him on my back, and keep going :) I want those boys to see what it means to take care of yourself and to do hard things. I want to see them choose to take care of themselves and do hard things!
•
I mention often how woodworking has helped me navigate so much in my life, but fitness has too. And I’m just as thankful to have had it to help bring me back to myself.
