Here’s what I want parents to know ⬇️
Breathe, itll be ok. I'm a Pediatrics Dr & Mom

1️⃣ Stop the exposure immediately
If it’s food. Stop eating right away.

2️⃣ Look beyond the rash
Hives are important, but also watch for:
• lip, face, or eye swelling
• vomiting, abdominal pain
• coughing, hoarse voice
• trouble breathing
• extreme irritability or lethargy

3️⃣ If it’s just a rash & lip swelling (still considered 1 system)
Offer non-drowsy oral anti-allergy medications (loratadine, cetirizine)
AVOID diphenhydramine (Benadryl) if possible.
Call your child’s regular Dr for further care.
They don’t necessarily need the ER

4️⃣ If there’s rash + vomiting, breathing symptoms, feeling of faint or rapid worsening (considered Anaphylaxis)
Use Epinephrine (Epipen or @auvi_q) asap if you have
PLEASE DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE GET TO THE ER
If you don’ have Epi, call for help. Be sure to say it is ‘Anaphylaxis’
Your child needs Epinephrine & it saves lives.
NB: Benadryl DOES NOT stop anaphylaxis

5️⃣ Call emergency services or go to the ER
Even if symptoms improve after epinephrine, your child is best evaluated, esp if its the first

If this is their first reaction and it’s getting worse
Don’t manage this alone at home.

Allergic reactions can be mild and resolve BUT some others can progress and need more
When parents act early, outcomes are better.
If you’re ever unsure, it’s safer to get help than to wait.

Save this.
Share it with anyone who cares for your child.
🌟 I probably see 1–3 babies with reflux every shift in the Pediatric ER.

🌟 Some are happy, smiling, gaining weight, and doing great despite all the spit up.

🌟 Others are miserable; choking, gagging, struggling with feeds, or constantly vomiting.

🌟 There are definitely different severities to infant reflux…
but honestly, infant reflux is not for the weak 😅

🌟 The constant laundry, the cleaning.
The scary moments when milk suddenly comes out of their nose & they stopped breathing.

🌟 I’ve seen a LOT of it, so I made a video breaking down: why it happens, what’s normal vs not
and what parents should never ignore.

Comment “𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝘂𝘅” and I’ll send you the video.
Thanks to these parents for sharing their little ones with different forms of it.

🌟 Did your baby do any of these? Let share with comments and experiences or questions
🌟 Our babies are pro at this

🌟 And yes we want them to show off and advance. and they will be doing it without announcing 😫

🌟 Most end up on our beds to hang out while we are doing something and roll or crawl it is

🌟 My 1st was a pro at this, and fell off a few times. We moved diaper changes & play to thr floor mat 😊.

🌟 Ita all about attempting to stay 1 step ahead of them... drop the crib settings, leave them on the floor,

🌟 As a Peds ER Dr & Mom, I've shared a lot about what to do with head injury but here's how ww can prevent some 😉 too

🌟 Comment "𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝘂𝗿𝘆" for a video what to do when your baby falls off n bumps their head.

🌟 What's your baby a pro at?
Babies grunt. A lot. And most of the time. it’s completely normal. 👶🏽

Normal grunting:
✔️ While pooping (the worst)
✔️ Stretching or changing positions
✔️ During sleep or feeds

But persistent grunting with:
🚩 Fast breathing
🚩 Pulling in at the ribs/neck
🚩 Flaring nostrils
🚩 Trouble feeding

…can be a sign of breathing distress and should be evaluated promptly.

Occasional grunting = usually okay.

Persistent grunting with breathing difficulty = get checked.

Does your baby grunt? Hope this helps know the difference
