It’s a nut gatherer and I saw it used to collect walnuts and I thought - I bet that would work with my limes!! 🍋‍🟩 ✨😉 At this stage of life, and a bad back, anything that means fewer trips bending down to pick up 47 limes is a gardening tool worth having. They come in different sizes. When we bought this lime tree to add to our orchard, I actually wanted the limes that were bigger. When I told a friend we discovered they were the smaller ones that fit into a Corona she said “Well sounds like those are the right limes 🍋‍🟩 “ and we laughed. And did you know limes can have two harvest seasons? Also, don’t panic if they start turning yellow! They’re still good to use. I had no idea my first year of growing and composted my entire harvest because I thought they had gone bad!! We live on a former citrus Grove in the middle of central Phoenix with flood Irrigation. The fruit trees don’t live forever so we planted new ones when we moved in 14 years ago and have an area we call the orchard! Often we are asked what is our water bill and the highest for just water only in the month of August was $85 (not including sewer trash etc). We have SRP flood irrigated a lot which helps with creating a microclimate we have with the shade trees we planted - fan Tex ash and Chinese elm trees. Blooms all year? Sounds exhausting especially in this heat. I’m not interested in heat stroke or maintaining a garden in 110–118° heat. 🔥 I’m on vacation anyway, and my garden can wait! A reminder you do NOT have to keep your garden perfect 365 days a year. Give yourself permission to let things rest, die back, or simply survive. It’s hot.
