do any other mums feel like this when their husband gets home from work?

when he asks me how my days been & what I’ve done, do I tell him I ate with one hand? I went to the toilet without a baby strapped to me? do you I tell him how much milk I pumped? how many nappies I’ve changed?

or do I just say, “it was great thank you how was yours?”

I learnt with Auraelia that motherhood can feel lonely, even when you’re never alone & you can get absolutely everything done & still feel like you’ve done nothing

but this time with Huxley feels different, I feel so unbelievably lucky to have him with me everywhere I go probably because it took so long to meet him but also because it’s my second time

& yes, it’s a lot, yes I look forward to mat being home but there’s also something indescribably special about being someone’s favourite place & I wouldn’t swap my days with anyone

*ps this is not in anyway saying mat doesn’t do enough, he does *more* than I could ever wish for, we just do the same things just v differently right now
to every mum raising a little girl, I hope one day she meets the kind of boys we’re trying to raise. boys who listen, who respect boundaries, who celebrate her…

I’ve had a daughter for 5 years but now having a son has made me really think of my responsibilities raising a boy. He’s going to be someone’s friend, colleague, classmate, future husband, someone’s safe place & I want him to be everything @mathewlcarter is to me, everything my brother @kingofhenryland is

teaching our sons about consent, emotions & equality is just as important as teaching our daughters that they deserve all the above. The responsibility shouldn’t fall on girls to protect themselves from boys who were never taught better
pumping has made me feel like a first time mum again

Auraelia never took a bottle, she just wanted milk straight from the *source* but… with Huxley I was determined for him to take the boob *and* the bot & thank the holy mother of milk, he does 🍼

so, here’s the pumping advice for the breastfeeding mumma who feels overwhelmed by it all

-experiment with timings, I find for me, first thing in the morning works best. I pump the other boob whilst Hux has his first feed of the day.

-don’t think about the future at the start, think about the day/night ahead. I always try to get enough for Mat to do one bottle, so I aim for around 90ml

-find your *flange*… @midwife_miranda really helped me by measuring my n*pple to prevent any pain

-output can vary massively from day to day. one pump doesn’t tell you how good your supply is

-you don’t need to even think about a freezer stash, sometimes success is simply today’s bottle ready in the fridge

-& in terms of bottles I’ve been using glass ones instead of the plastic ones. I also find the sterilising fluid in stainless steel bowls the easier/quickest way to clean everything

what do you wish you’d known before you started pumping?
ad things I never thought I’d do before becoming a mum… with @pampersuk_ire

smell another human’s bottom
count how many poos said human has done in a day
celebrate the poos
discuss the colour and consistency of said poos with my husband

motherhood basically revolves around someone else’s bottom & I want a newborn nappy that’s actually designed for this exact stage

Pampers Premium Protection New Baby Nappies have a Poo Pocket at the back that catches mess & leaks

they’re also the only newborn nappies approved by the British Skin Foundation & the DermaComfort Layer has 1000+ pores designed to draw wee & runny poo away from delicate skin

yes, you gaaaat it. I’m now a gal who gets genuinely excited about a really good nappy
