I’ve been a fan and follower of @work_louder for years. I was the first recipient of their Creator Micro 2 and I’ve been watching their rise to success in awe.

I got their newest keyboard in the mail yesterday and it is bloody gorgeous. It’s called the Framer F1, and a big thank you to @Framer for letting me be one of the first to have a play with this bad boy.

As usual with work louder products, you can customise just about everything on this keyboard, which means I can program actions to those dials, and you can also upload your own images to that little widget!

Thanks for having my back guys. I really appreciate it.

🦙This is a true story.

But JUST SO WE’RE CLEAR, this NEVER happens.

My logo for Metalama (which has won 6 awards now) was signed off, first go. And yes, I did just one sketch.

Sometimes, you just get lucky and a unicorn design comes to you straight away. But this was only possible because I had a couple of things in place before I started the job.

1. A great brief and a ‘success statement’

This is where you and your client sit and talk, and LISTEN to one another. You then work together to come up with a short paragraph that determines what a ‘home run’ looks like for this project.

2. Brand nouns

See my previous post. The aim is to get 4 or 5 THINGS (not words) signed off before the project. That way you’re not working with a concept your client won’t like. So ‘# symbol’ and ‘llama’ were obvious choices for this project.

[Based on a true story] Have you tried the brand noun process?

Once upon a time I did 5 completely unique options for a logo project, only to have them all rejected. Long time followers will recognise this ‘Electric E’ logo as one of those versions.

I would design full-blown versions of logo marks (mockups and all) using concepts that I was hoping and praying that the client would go along with. I missed the mark on all of them, and me and that client eventually parted ways.

It was brutal.

I ended up re-writing my process, and introduced the Brand Noun Process from @allanpeters (see his book ‘Logos That Last’).

It completely revolutionised my client interactions and changed the way I work, with more projects being signed off on the first go, or at least with minimal revisions.

P.S. Full story, I ended up giving that logo away to a local electrician and she now uses it as part of her branding! 😍
