The sheer size of the gigantic columns covered in intricate art & colors that have lasted 4,000 years will leave you in awe… can you believe that humans actually built this and that it used to be completely covered in gold?! 🤯 Tips on visiting: ✨ for less crowds and best golden lighting, visit just after sunrise (the temple opens at 6 am). We took the overnight train from Cairo and it was our first stop. ✨ be sure to explore past the columns as the temple is HUGE and there is a lot to see! some of my favorite areas and “secret” rooms were farther back where there are giant obelisks and arches with incredible details ✨ check out the Avenue of the Sphinxes, which is 2.7km long and lined with 1,000 sphinxes, connecting Karnak Temple to Luxor Temple ✨ I highly recommend coming here with a guide as there is so much history behind the temple and a lot of details that are easy to miss—a guide ensures you get the whole picture! ✨ Be respectful. NO touching, no sitting on columns or other ancient artifacts. It’s recommended to cover knees and shoulders while in the temple. ✨ Take your time. The temple really is massive and there’s a lot to see. There’s also a lake side picturesque cafe to stop and refuel at. Follow @amanda.exploring for more travel inspo Here’s what you should know before planning a safari👇 1️⃣ Choose a destination: most common choices are South Africa, Kenya or Tanzania. But you can also do Botswana, Zambia, Uganda, Namibia, or Zimbabwe. The time of year and what you want to see will also impact where you should go. Many people choose Masai Mara or Serengeti for their first safari and for good reason…there are tons of animals! Another tip…don’t be afraid to go off the beaten path! We also spent some time in northern Kenya in Samburu National Park and loved it. Most close up elephant encounters were in Samburu and we were often the only truck! 2️⃣ Decide the time of year: Jan-April: Serengeti, Maasai Mara, Kruger May-Sept: Rwanda, Botswana, and Zimbabwe July-August: Peak great migration in Serengeti-Maasai Mara Don’t overlook the shoulder seasons though where prices drop! 3️⃣ Decide your budget: you DO not need a $20k budget to go on safari! There are safaris in South Africa that can be done on a tight budget. After you decide your budget, this will help guide the safari camp you choose. Average pricing: Budget safari (camping): $150pp/night Budget safari: $250pp/night Mid-range safari: $330pp/night Luxury safari: $700+pp/night I highly recommend looking into an all-inclusive option that includes game drives, meals, and accommodation. If you’re looking for a provider to go with, I highly recommend @shiri_adventures and have a discount code so let me know if you’re interested! You can choose how many game drives to do each day. We did 5 days in Maasai Mara and did either one all day game drive with a bush lunch or two game drives. This historic building was originally built in the early 1820s as the Merchants’ Guild Hall, and the archway was created as a public passage connecting Temple Bar to the bridge. Then, it was a boys school before becoming a factory. It turned into the pub that people know and love in 1993. The most spectacular part?? Walking to the back of the pub, you’ll be in awe of the towering wooden spiral staircase 🤯 This charming pub was filled with the sounds of live Irish music, good food, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you never want to leave.
