One thing I’m genuinely proud of is the community around my youngest sons specialist school.

Community is showing up and supporting each other, and in this case doing something together for the kids.
It’s shared effort, shared understanding, and shared care.

Its people who show up, step in, and understand without explanation.

People who don’t minimise, rush, or judge.

People who know that sometimes you step forward, sometimes you need to step back, sometimes all you can do is get through the day and all of that counts. The kind of community every family deserves.

When you’re parenting children with additional needs and disabilities, community isn’t a nice extra it’s everything and that matters more than most people will ever realise.

Community reminds me that we’re not doing this alone 🤍

The parts people dont see.
Places like this aren’t easy for him. They never have been. There’s a lot going on, a lot to process and filter, a lot expected without being said. When something holds his attention like this, when he’s engaged enough to come back to it again, even for a moment, I don’t rush him. I don’t hold him back or redirect. I don’t try to turn it into anything more than what it is. I just watch and I let myself really see it.

Moments like this don’t often happen by accident. They happen when environments are kind, when expectations loosen, when autistic individuals are allowed space to exist as they are. It isn’t calm. It isn’t a breakthrough. It’s effort, experience, curiosity and regulation in motion, a huge win for families like mine.

Small things always matter. What looks small from the outside can be everything on the inside.✨️
