Using the avalanche method only saves her about $200 in interest over the life of her debt.

In Heather’s situation, all of her debts have pretty similar high interest rates. So there is not a huge mathematical advantage to focusing on one debt over another based on APR alone.

The avalanche method usually creates the biggest savings when there is a really large gap between interest rates.

Her highest interest debt also is not dramatically larger than the others, so there is not a ton of extra time for interest savings to really build up before the debt is gone anyway.

Honestly, this is why I always say the best debt payoff method is the one you are actually going to stay consistent with.

Let's not forget taxes that I set aside each month. Since my net income was around $13,000, I saved $3,900 into my tax savings account which is a high-yield savings account.
