If you’re looking at kitchen cabinets and every option is starting to feel like the exact same version of what you’ve seen a hundred times before, it might be time to switch it up.

Pattern sandwiching might just be one of my favorite design trends of 2026.

The idea is simple: repeat a pattern, color, or visual motif in different places throughout a room so the eye naturally moves around the space. Think a patterned chair picking up the colors in a rug, or a wallpaper pattern echoed in the drapery and accessories.

The key is that it should feel collected, not overly coordinated. You want the patterns to speak to each other without everything looking like it came from the same fabric book.

This is such a good way to make a room feel layered, cohesive, and full of personality without relying on a perfectly matched set.
