Here we goooo - it’s been three months and I really haven’t been sure where to start so I’ll start from the beginning … 🔑 The day we got the keys to our new home, a wee Victorian terraced cottage originally built for the builders of Crystal Palace & the London railway.

Many of you are aware of our (and also share the) ‘to leave or not to leave London’ debacle. After living in our central London flat for 12 years and having explored ALL the possibilities of where to potentially move to, we finally settled on staying in London for now, though somewhere a little further out.

Our list of desirables when it came to a home fundamentally consisted of - a period/character property with some sort of outdoor space, decent transport connections, in walking distance of green space and shops, with enough room to house our growing family for a few years, that wouldn’t financially stretch us into oblivion. There were many compromises to be had (ie the garden stairs of death as I like to call them, not really having anywhere to park a pram, only having one toilet) but ultimately this house delivered on the key things.

It’s been a roller coaster of a three months since we moved in, my (absolutely raging/debilitating) pregnancy hormones have pretty much boycotted the whole experience and the settling in period has been a lot less romantic than I had envisaged. Our vocabulary has consisted of things like ‘wtf, damp, pipework, surveys, how is this so uneven?, which box is that thing in?, indoor wildlife, & what’s that smell?’.

We’ve redesigned the layout of the house a million times over in our heads, ranging from doing a lot to doing very little and we’ve still not really settled on any solid plans. I’ve always been a big believer in taking things slow, but even by my standards things have been SLOW (apart from the haste at which the carpets were pulled up!!)

There isnt a single room or even corner that feels remotely done in any way shape or form, yet in just a few months a certain little person will be making their debut into the world and so the countdown is ON to get this place feeling as cosy and livable as we possibly can 😅🙏

ad Cold Brew Tea - a summer revelation 💦

There’ll be no judgment here for not knowing exactly what Cold Brew Tea is, because I asked this very question, so to put it simply (because simple is what it is) it’s Tea that has been steeped in cold water, rather than hot like with Iced Tea, and left to infuse gently.

The ‘how-to’ is very straight forward - Tea bag + cold water + leave for a bit and go! It can be popped in the fridge overnight, or if you’re dashing out the door it can be thrown in your bag and be ready to drink in a couple hours. It really just depends on how much time you have and how intense you’d like the flavour to be.

Perhaps best of all, it can be made using any AVANTCHA Tea - Green Tea, Black Tea, Fruit Tea and Herbal Tea. I’ve used @avantchatea_uk’s Rose White here - literally English summer dreams in a water bottle 🌹

Ad Sunday morning home comforts with @rowenandwren

To me, being comfortable at home (especially on the most sacred morning of the week) involves a blend of all five senses and ample time to enjoy them. Soft lighting, cosy quilts, comfortable pyjamas, elements of nature, quality time with your favourite people, rolling hot drinks and good food is how I truly believe Sunday morning’s were made to be spent.

I am totally enamoured by these beautifully crafted Rowen and Wren pieces that feel like heirlooms (and that are certain to become just that over time). They add so much to our Sunday mornings. Pyjamas, lamp and quilt tagged in this reel.

Ps. I also believe that Sundays (especially spring ones) were made for whole clementine cake, which is what we’ll be grazing on today, so here is the recipe for you, in ode of Sunday x

Whole Clementine cake 🍊

Ingredients
- 320g whole clementines (about 5)
- 120g yogurt or sour cream
- 280g granulated sugar
- 200g eggs (approx 4)
- 220g unsalted butter or 180ml olive oil
- 325g plain flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt

Glaze
Half an orange squeezed
1 1/2 cups icing sugar

To make
1. Heat oven to 175 degrees Celsius and butter or spray a Bundt tin, round cake tin, or loaf tin
2. In a food processor, blitz whole clementines (skin on) into a smooth pulp
3. Stir in yogurt - combined mixture to weigh 250g or amount to 2 cups
4. Beat butter + sugar on high till light and creamy. If using olive oil beat at a lower speed and add oil gradually
5. Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl
6. Very gently mix in half of dry ingredient mixture and alternate with half of clementine mixture until fully combined
7. Spoon into greased tin and baked for 55-60 mins
8. Leave in tin for 15 mins then remove and allow to cool completely
9. Pour glaze over cake and top with freeze dried raspberries for a pop of colour
