Goodbye, butter cow 🧈🐄💔

September 7 is your last day to see the Renwick Gallery’s exhibit “State Fairs: Growing American Craft.” From quilts, baskets, and pottery to a massive butter cow, shimmering piñata corncobs, and a pyramid of canned fruits and veggies, the exhibit is giving allll the yee haw energy. My favorite part is just how personal the exhibit feels, highlighting rural communities, Indigenous traditions, family dynamics, and the many personalities and perspectives that make state fairs so special.

Check it out until September 7, 2026— it’s always free to visit!

This is the 1618 window (from the third defenestration), located within Prague Castle. When Protestant nobles threw Catholic representatives of the Holy Roman Emperor out the window that day it sparked the Thirty Years’ War—a bloody religious conflict that claimed upwards of 11 million lives, depending on who you ask.

Interestingly, the Catholics survived the fall thanks to a pile of manure beneath the window.
