As the year comes to an end, it’s so easy to reflect on everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly. And as someone living with sickle cell, there’s been a lot of ugly. In those moments, it’s easy to forget about all the good life still has to offer.

When I’m unwell, I have to be really intentional about protecting my mental health. One thing that helps is focusing on the positives. Yes, very cliché, but hear me out…

A few years ago, I started a gratitude jar. From January 1st to December 31st, every single day I wrote down something I was thankful for and added it to the jar. At the end of the year, I read everything back 🗓️

And honestly, it was a much needed reminder of how good life actually is. Despite the downs (and there were many), they didn’t compare to the amazing moments I experienced, moments I would’ve completely forgotten about otherwise.

I’ll be doing this again in 2026, and I’m really looking forward to all the good the year has to offer 🤍

Have you ever done anything like this?

When it comes to working out with sickle cell, moderation is alwayssssss key‼️

A lot of us grew up being told not to exercise at all out of fear that it would trigger a crisis, so it makes sense why so many of us hesitate. Buttttt we shouldn’t count ourselves out of exercise altogether, we just need to find what truly suits our bodies.

Doing too much in the past has triggered countless crises for me, so now I really try to find that balance between pushing myself and not overexerting myself. And honestly, over the past month+, I’ve been making myself so proud with my consistency 😌.

Side note: this song has been on loop for months, no word of a lie 😭 @changeworship

Every 4 weeks… you know the drill.

Recently I’ve been getting a lot of questions asking me if I’ll be doing this for the rest of my life.
The truth is, I don’t know… I hope not 😬

But right now, this is the treatment that keeps me going. So every four weeks, when I walk into the hospital, I remind myself to be grateful that I even have access to it in the first place.

& until things change, I’m just taking it one appointment at a time.
