Dealing with some neck pain, and instead of immediately reaching for another pain reliever, I’ve been adding red light therapy also called photobiomodulation to my routine.

And there is actually some science behind it. Research suggests photobiomodulation may help reduce neck pain in the short term. What I also like about it is that it’s non-invasive and drug-free, with a generally favorable safety profile.

But context matters: I don’t consider red light a cure, and I’m not using it as a replacement for movement, exercise, physical therapy when needed, or appropriate medical treatment. I think of it as another tool in the toolbox that may help me manage discomfort while reducing how often I reach for medication.

One important caveat: the wavelengths, doses, and devices used in clinical studies vary, so we can’t assume every consumer red-light device will produce the same results.

For me, lifestyle dermatology is often about finding evidence informed tools that I can realistically incorporate into my everyday life.

Not the flashiest health advice, I know. But once you look into it, muscle isn’t just about how you look. It is doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes:

• Keeps your metabolism working for you, not against you
• Helps regulate blood sugar and insulin sensitivity
• Releases compounds that support your brain and reduce inflammation
• Predicts how strong, mobile, and independent you’ll be later in life more than almost anything else you can control

Muscle is the new aesthetic. Looking good is just the beginning.

Save and share this if you need the reminder to lift something heavy this week. And follow for more longevity tips.

Neuromodulators are about balance not wrinkles.

My patient came in with noticeable eyebrow asymmetry: her right brow sat higher, while her left brow sat lower.
So I didn’t treat both sides the same.

⬇️ Higher brow → selectively weaken the elevator
⬆️ Lower brow → selectively weaken the depressor

The result? More balanced brows without trying to make her face perfectly symmetrical.

What do you think of the results?

The takeaway?
SPF 30 is good. SPF 50 offers additional protection. Melanin provides some protection, but it doesn’t replace sunscreen.
