Watching @izzyhoops53 grow as a basketball player has honestly been one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten to witness as a dad.

This weekend was her first tournament in Southern California with her AAU team @atrainoregon, and I could not be more proud of her.

She had 2 great games today in Santa Ana.

Game 1:
7 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block

Game 2:
14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks

But honestly, what makes me the proudest is not even the stats. It’s watching her confidence grow. Watching her battle in the post, fight through contact, hustle after rebounds, defend hard, and compete with so much heart.

Basketball is giving her the chance to travel, see new places, build memories with teammates, and grow into herself more and more every single season. And getting to watch that happen as her dad is pretty incredible.

So freaking proud of you, @izzyhoops53. Keep working. Keep believing in yourself. The growth has been amazing to watch.

There’s a version of me from a few years ago that genuinely would not believe this life is real.

The hiking. The traveling. Speaking in rooms full of people. Working with brands I used to only see online. Losing 160 pounds. Building a career out of storytelling and the outdoors. Advocating for things I care about. Even something as simple as being comfortable enough to look at myself in a drone shot like this without immediately tearing myself apart in my own head.

Because for most of my life, I was my own worst enemy.

I hid behind self deprecating humor for years. I constantly doubted myself before I even started something. I assumed other people were more talented, more capable, more deserving than I was. I talked myself out of opportunities before they even had the chance to become real.

And the wild thing is, after enough years of thinking like that, you start believing it’s just who you are.

But somewhere along this journey, something shifted.

I started realizing that my life changed when I stopped automatically assuming I would fail. When I stopped believing every terrible thing I told myself. When I stopped viewing myself as the obstacle to my own happiness all the time.

That doesn’t mean I suddenly became confident overnight. I still struggle with insecurity. I still have days where I doubt myself hard. But I’m learning that growth sometimes looks like choosing to believe you’re capable even while your brain is trying to convince you otherwise.

And honestly? A lot of the biggest moments in my life only happened because I finally stopped fighting myself long enough to take the chance.

I’m curious. Have any of you dealt with this too? Feeling like your biggest obstacle wasn’t always the world around you, but the voice in your own head telling you that you couldn’t do it?
